Announcements and Reminders:
               
  •  Cavetime will begin on September 6. 
  •  School pictures will be taken on September 8 - 9. 
  • Your disclosure signature sheet was due by August 26.  If you haven't turned it in yet, complete and turn it in as soon as possible. 

Today bring earbuds or earphones if you have them.



Targets for Today:

Students will practice independent recreational reading.

Students will learn about reading online.




State Core Reading: Literature Standard 10 
By the end of the year, read and comprehend literature, including stories, dramas, and poems, in the grades 6–8 text complexity band proficiently, with scaffolding as needed at the high end of the range.   925L–1185L

Reading: Informational Text Standard 10 
By the end of the year, read and comprehend literary nonfiction in the grades 6–8 text complexity band proficiently, with scaffolding as needed at the high end of the range.       925L–1185L


Writing Standard 8 
Gather relevant information from multiple print and digital sources, using search terms effectively; assess the credibility and accuracy of each source; and quote or paraphrase the data and conclusions of others while avoiding plagiarism and following a standard format for citation.

1. Pick up your folder from the black crate. 

2. Take out or select a book to read.
         Reading your choice of materials.
  
3.  Continue reading until instructed to stop.
     Fill out your reading log. 


4. Computer Lab

a. Prepare to go to computer lab 202 -- just out the door, to the right.

b.  Receive your packet for work in the computer lab: 
        Using Metacognition When Using the Internet
Thinking about your thinking as your read the Internet

Your computer number is your folder number.  


c. Get as much done as you can today.  
    Be on task!  

5. When we return to the classroom, put your folders away and clean up after yourself.

Pick up or print the computer lab packet.  You could work on this at home or during Cave Time Intervention.

  •     If you're absent, or were off-task during reading time, or didn't fill out your log, pick up a pink make-up sheet and do the homework.


  6.    One-Minute Partner Fluency Practice
       Each partner gets a page protector and a copy of the poem to read.
       Put the poem into the page protector.
       With a classmate you will take turns reading the passage.
       You will be timed for one minute.
       Notice how far you read. 
          Write it down on your disclosure document:
              ______ wpm
MAKE SURE YOU FILL OUT THE DATE, PASSAGE NUMBER OR LETTERS, AND WORDS PER MINUTE EACH TIME YOU HAVE HAD A TURN TO DO A TIMED READING.  

   Place the passages/page protectors in your folders.
