The Rotation Project

About What We Do and Why We're Doing It

Most students already use Google to do research.  This class will add to your Internet skills by helping you learn to use other, often more effective, ways to find information.  You will also practice taking notes on what you read, organizing information, and preparing a presentation for your classmates that will be interesting and easy to read.
Here are some guidelines for your project:
-- You will need three or more online sources for your research project.  We will find them during class.
--  This will provide you with more information, allow you to check whether each piece of information is true, and will help you avoid plagiarizing.
-- To select the subject of your research, you will start out with three or more possible subjects – people who could qualify as heroes for one reason or another.   As you check for available information, you will narrow your search to the one person you are most interested in and for whom you can find the most reliable information.

Here is a link to a list of possible heroes for your research project:
Suggestions for Heroes
You may select someone not on the list, but that person will need to be approved by Ms. Dorsey.

This is what you'll do today:
1. Find your seat. See the seating chart on a desk nearest the door and on another desk near the front of the room.

2. Receive back your book pass papers.  (If you don't get yours back, check the no-name basket.  If yours was in the no-name basket, after you use it today, make sure you put your name on it and hand it in again.

2. Select a book from the student desks or the rolling book cart, take it with you to your seat, and begin reading it.

3. Book Pass.
The teacher will tell you which way to pass the books. (same as last time)

  • Look at the cover.
  • Read the blurb on the back of the book.
  • Begin reading at the beginning of the book, and keep reading until you're told to stop.
Book frenzy -- When directed to, politely negotiate with classmates to get back the book you would most like to read during the next 15 minutes.

4.  Individual Reading Time and San Diego Quick Testing.
  • Receive Reading Log.
  • Record your reading for today.
6. Receive and fill out the Reading 7 Interest Inventory.
7. Practice Fluency Practice -- Listen for Instructions.

8. Learn about your project for this reading rotation.
