Announcements and Reminders: for Thursday, August 28, 2017
                        

 4H Clubs begin on Monday, August 28.  The 4H leader will be here August 23rd after school and Friday, August 25 during  both lunches for students to sign up for clubs.

School Pictures will be taken during math classes on Thursday and Friday, August 31 and September 1.

Cavetime will begin on Tuesday, September 5. 

Scholastic Book Orders:  Use our class code when you order online:  GKLJW.
Information for this class:  Bring your own pens and pencils.  It also helps to have your own lined paper.  If you have a book you want to read or that you need to read for your English or another class, bring it to read during our individual reading time.

1. Find your assigned seat.
  •     Turn in your disclosure signature sheets, if you have them ready.
  •     Don't forget to fill out the back

2. Select a book to read and read quietly for about 20 minutes.

(Ms. Dorsey be administering the San Diego Quick Test of reading skills to students -- one at a time.)

  •     If you're absent, or were off-task during reading time, or didn't fill out your log, pick up a pink make-up sheet and do the homework.

3.   One-Minute Partner Fluency Practice
  •        Each partner gets a page protector and a copy of the poem to read.
  •       Each pair gets one eraser and one white-board marker.
  •        Put the poem into the page protector.
  •        With a classmate you will take turns reading the passage.
  •        You will be timed for one minute.
  •        Your partner will follow along and mark any errors and mark where you ended. 
  •        Notice how far you read.  Figure out how many words you read, then subtract any errors.
  •           Write it down.

MAKE SURE YOU FILL OUT THE DATE, PASSAGE NUMBER OR LETTERS, AND WORDS PER MINUTE EACH TIME YOU HAVE HAD A TURN TO DO A TIMED READING.

After you receive your folders, your fluency graph and your sheet protector with the poem inside will stay in the folder. 

4.  Set up your folders. 

Line up with the rest of the class by last name. 

On the flap, after the number, write your 
Last name, First name

Complete a crossword using vocabulary from computers and Internet.

 To make up for the reading time you missed, read at home for 20 minutes, record the title, and get a parent signature confirming that you read.
