6. If you've really tried all of these strategies, and you still don't understand, ask someone who can help you.



Another student . . . 

or the teacher -- even if she or he is SCARY. . . 

or a parent, . . . or. . . .

This one works best if you have already tried other strategies, and if you ask a SPECIFIC question. 
Instead of saying, "I just don't get this!" 
say, "I've tried several reading strategies and I still don't understand what it means when it says that "photosynthesis is performed differently by different species."  I thought all plants did it the same way.  
(or)  "I tried looking it up, and I still don't understand what a photoautotroph is."
