-- reading to learn and remember.
Metacognition! -- Begin your Pamphlet of Reading Strategies.
Reading Strategy #1

Step One:  Notice Your Thinking so you can
really read when you're reading.

Metacognition: Noticing your own thinking.

IAMNOWHERE!

BICUM -- Be in Control -- Use Metacognition.

1. Check your own inner voice

What distracts you?  What keeps you from focusing on the thing you are supposed to be reading?

What do you do when you've been distracted and realize you haven't really been reading -- then what if you're just not getting it?   How can you keep yourself focused in the first place?

Pair-Share

You can learn strategies to help yourself succeed in your reading tasks.

Using a plain piece of paper -- colored or white, fold it into thirds -- hamburger-wise.

You won't need a mail label, though!

Practice Metacognition

Leave your folder in the hanging folder with the matching number -- in the crates at the back of the room.

10.  Put folders away.

If You Were Absent:

Your folder will have been placed in the crate for your class.  Pick it up when you come into class next time.  The folders are alphabetical by last name.

To make up for the reading time you missed, read at home for 20 minutes, record the title, and get a parent signature confirming that you read.
