Announcements and Reminders:
                     
  •  August 25 is the last day to change classes without paying a fee. 
  • There is a dance on August 26!  Seventh/Eighth grade Dance will be from 3:00- 4:00 and costs $2. 
  •  Cavetime begins on September 6. 
  •  School pictures will be taken on September 8. 

  • Your disclosure signature sheet is due by August 26.

1 Self-Starter:
1. Find your seat on the seating chart.
2. Reading your choice of materials.


(3.) If you brought back your disclosure document, please hand in the signature sheet to the top wire basket for your class.

    • Your disclosure document signatures and VIP form are due by August 26.

4.  We will discuss more of our classroom procedures.

5. More Book Pass!
The teacher will tell you which way to pass the books. 
  • Look at the cover.
  • Read the blurb on the back of the book.
  • Fill out a line on your log with the title.
  • Begin reading at the beginning of the book, and keep reading until you're told to stop.
  • Fill out the rest of that line on your log.

6. Book frenzy -- When directed to, politely negotiate with classmates to get back the book you would most like to read during the next _5_ minutes.





7. Begin a  Reading Log
  •     On most class days we will have some quiet individual reading time at the beginning of class.  Bring a book to read or borrow something from the teacher's shelves.  
  • If you borrow a book, please put it back where it belongs. 
  • Don't forget to fill out your reading log every time.  It counts on your grade!   
    • Fill out every part of the line for each day: date, type of material read, title, something about what you read, minutes read.

  •     If you're absent, or don't fill out your log, pick up a pink make-up sheet and do the homework.








  9.    One-Minute Partner Fluency Practice
       Each partner gets a page protector and a copy of the poem to read.
       Put the poem into the page protector.
       With a classmate you will take turns reading the passage.
       You will be timed for one minute.
       Notice how far you read. 
          Write it down on your fluency graph.

If You Were Absent:

Your folder will have been placed in the crate for your class.  Pick it up when you come into class next time.  The folders are alphabetical by last name.

To make up for the reading time you missed, read at home for 20 minutes, record the title, and get a parent signature confirming that you read.
