Announcements and Reminders:                            Today is Early-Out Monday.

Targets for Today: Each student will select a book to check out from the media center.Each student will preview several books, looking for more books he or she might enjoy reading.Note:  A major focus of this class is helping you improve the types of reading you do to learn, but we will also give you time to read for enjoyment (and you will be expected to read during those times).  Today you will have the opportunity to look for books you would enjoy reading.

Today’s  Agenda: Class begins at 11:20. 1.  11:25 - 11:45 am    We are taking a "field trip" to the Media Center to check out books.   We will line up to walk to the Media Center together.  Remember to be quiet in the halls since there other classes going on.  You will select a book to check out, so you need your student number.   In the media center,  fiction books are to the left and nonfiction are to the right.   2.   Book Pass (also known as Speed-Rating) -- to get acquainted with some of the books in our classroom. Add caption The teacher will tell you which way to pass the books.  Look at the cover.  Read the blurb on the back of the book.  Fill out a line on your log with the title.    Book Pass Log.doc Begin reading at the beginning of the book, and keep reading until you're told to stop -- about three mintues.  Fill out the rest of that line on your book pass log.  Then do the same with the next book.  Repeat.  3.  Time to read your choice of books.  You will have independent reading time for a portion of each class period, so make sure you have something to read -- something you'll enjoy!

If You Were Absent: See above for what we did.  Ask for and complete the Book-Pass assignment when you return.

Vocabulary: Fiction:  made-up stories --  about imaginary events, settings, people, creatures, etc. Nonfiction:   about real events, people, places, etc.
