Introduction to a new classroom

1. Begin class with Quiet Individual Reading.    Fill out your reading log! 
--  How to fill out your log and graph

2. Fluency Partner Practice

3. Receive new hall pass requests.  The ones you do not use will earn extra credit at the end of the rotation.



4.  We will be going to the Media Center to learn about doing research.


Bring a pencil or pen.

Can you separate the roses from the manure?
What should we look at on a website to make sure we are getting good information?

Look around.  Literally.
Who published it? The answer is usually at the bottom of the page after you scroll down.

C = Currency
Can you find when the information was posted/published?
When was it last updated?
Is it ever updated?
Is this the most current version?
Do the links work?

R = Relevancy
Does this help answer your question?
Will it support your argument?
Is it a good example?
Will your assignment be better with this?
Is it restating things you've already said and

A = Authority
Who wrote or published this?
What expertise do they have?
Does the organization state their purpose clearly and openly?

A = Accuracy
Can you verify the information?
Are the means of discovering this information made clearly available?
Are the conventions (spelling, capitalization, punctuation, etc.) correct?

P = Purpose
Does it add new knowledge to the world?
Is this information presented with a bias?  Is it objective?
If there is an opinion presented, is it made clear?
Goal: to teach, persuade, sell, entertain?
