Announcements and Reminders:

Targets for Today: I read for enjoyment, and add to a record of my reading. I can read aloud fluently. I will understand an overview of what we will do in this class.

Today’s  Agenda: Welcome to Ms. Dorsey's Rotation for Reading 7! You will be expected to READ in this class: read books and magazines and other texts, read directions, read from the Internet,  read this blog!  1. Get Ready: Find your assigned seat. Pick up your folder from the black crate at the back. Pick up copies of the reading log and the fluency graph at the front of the room. Put your name on each of them.  Use both first and last name.  Receive your hall passes. Write your name and period on each of the hall passes. Pick out a book or magazine to read if you don't already have one.  Notice the portion of the whiteboard for Reading 7. Needed supplies:  Bring your own pencils and pens.   You may bring a book to read, or borrow one from the classroom shelves.  If you need to read a book for your English class or another class, you could "kill two birds with one stone" by reading that  during our independent reading time.   Notice where you will hand in work:   in the top wire basket for your class period. Notice where you will find handouts if you have been absent: See the rolling bookcase at the front of the room by the whiteboard. Your Folder:  You will pick up your folder at the beginning of class and return it to the black crate at the end of class.  Fill out your log and graph when directed to. This counts on your grade. You will leave them in your folder.  2. Get Set: Make sure you have a book or something else to read.  You may read on your phone or iPad, but you must be reading, not doing other things.  3. Partner Fluency  Each partner gets a page protector and a copy of the passage to read. Put the passage into the page protector.  Follow directs for doing the timed readings. In this rotation you will learn more about and practice reading strategies and skills. There are tools you can use for reading! You will create a brochure for what to do before, during, and after reading. You will create a brochure for what to do before, during, and after reading. B. You will learn how to more effectively read materials from the Internet. You will practice.                  C.  You will learn about and practice making inferences.         D. You will practice your strategies and skills using a topic from U.S. history               -- and it will make you better prepared for your 8th grade history class!   and E. You will read -- a lot! 6. Fill out a computer use survey,  and a interest inventory. A4 looked briefly at Inner Voices (while reading). Link to some cartoons about reading: Funny?
