Announcements and Reminders:

Don't forget the reading strategies that we've learned so far! Soon we will have our Read-A-Thon and our Final Exam Interview.

Turn in your Reading Retention Practice sheet now, and pull out your books!

And don't forget to show your Caveman Spirit on Friday -- wear a school shirt or just wear red!

Our Readathon will be NEXT TIME on Monday, November 14.
Bring treats if you wish!

Make sure to check whether you have any reading make-up to do.  Check your folder for the pink make-up sheet or pick one up from the hand-outs box.  It is due by November 11!  If you are absent, do the make-up for the day/days you miss!

Plan to hand in unused hall passes on Monday.

Targets for Today:

I can turn in missing assignments.

I can use my reading strategies in a variety of reading situations.

Today’s  Agenda:

Silent Reading! Fill out your reading logs.

Now let's take the Reading Retention Quiz!

You did a good job coming up with mnemonics last time! Let's hear some of them! Grab a marker and come show us what you did.

Now let's talk about the final interview. Let's look at the rubric that you will receive next time.

We'll give you an example. Watch us act it out.

You don't have much time left with us! Some of you will need to spend some time making up homework assignments. I've printed reports for you and underlined the things you should work on.

Those who are not working on homework will be practicing for the final interview. This is how!

  • Get with a partner. You may choose who it is.
  • Pick two different kinds of books from around the room- novels, nonfiction, or autobiography, etc.
  • With your partner, take turns being the Interviewer or the student. If you're the interviewer, pick one of the books and give it to your partner.
  • Ask them to use one of the Pre-Reading Strategies. The student will take the book that you gave them and show you how to do the strategy.
  • Switch roles. You are now the student, and your partner will be the Interviewer.
  • The person who was the interviewer will now have to use a DIFFERENT Pre-Reading Strategy.  (Ex: If the first person did a SELF check, you would do Purpose or Preview)
  • Do this same thing for each group of strategies. First one person will demonstrate a strategy to the interviewer, then the other person will show a different strategy.

If You Were Absent:

Fill out your Pink Sheet to make up silent reading. Turn in your Reading Retention Practice homework and take the Reading Retention Quiz. Practice for the final interview.
