Announcements and Reminders:

Turn in your Fix-Up Practice homework!!

Pull out your books and begin reading.

Targets for Today:

I can list and describe the Fix-Up Reading Strategies.

I can distinguish between Pre-Reading, During Reading, and Fix-Up Strategies.

Today’s  Agenda:

Silent Reading. Fill out your reading logs.

Take the Fix-Up Strategies quiz.

Now for a review game!!

Each group will come pick up the following items:
  • One paperclipped group of umbrellas (Pre-Reading, During Reading, Fix-Up)
  • One paperclipped group of strategies (pink slips)
  • One paperclipped group of situations (green slips)
You will have about 20 minutes to make as many matches as you can.

Each strategy matches with an umbrella.
Each situation matches with a strategy.

You might want to put all the strategies under the correct umbrella, then match the situations. Some strategies have more than one situation.

Here are your groups.

After time is up, we'll review the correct answers together! Who was the closest?

One way to remember the Fix-Up Strategies: If you're not sure what's going on when you're reading, it can be like feeling lost when you're driving. Here is what you might do if you were unsure how to get to your destination when driving.
  • Reverse! (Reread)
  • Just keep driving! (Read ahead)
  • Check for weird landmarks around you (Unfamiliar words)
  • Read all the business and street signs (Read other sources)
  • Call someone who knows! (Ask for help)

Now you're going to practice using those strategies. Here is a short story that might have some unfamiliar words. It might not be very clear in who it is talking about or what is happening. Let's read the directions together!

If You Were Absent:

Turn in your Fix-Up Practice sheet. Take the Fix-Up Quiz. Review the strategies we have covered so far!
