  • I can learn about improving my reading by using metacognition. 


Today’s  Agenda for  Wednesday, January 24, 2018:

1. Individual quiet reading.
    Fill out your reading log for today. 
     (San Diego Quick Individual Reading Tests) 

2. Partner fluency practice  -- Pick up a new passage.  
    Record each time you read on your fluency graph. 

3.  Metacognition:  

Add a panel to your BICUM Brochure.  Notice that we're skipping one for now.  We'll get back to it.

A Great Memory Aid:  Write and Draw 
Use a sheet of plain paper to sketch out the peg system.  
Fold it in half (hot dog).  
Divide each column into 5 - about 2 inches each.

Vocabulary:

mnemonic -- a memory aide -- something to help you remember
acronym:  an abbreviation formed from the initial letters of other words and pronounced as a word (e.g., ASCIINASA ).
acrostic:  An acrostic is a poem or sentence (or other form of writing) in which the first letter (or syllable, or word) of each line (or paragraph, or other recurring feature in the text) spells out a word, message or the alphabet.
peg system -- a mnemonic using numbers and words that rhyme with them.
