September 22 is Bilbo's and Frodo's Birthday!
Announcements and Reminders:

Next time is the Mind Map test!! We'll be studying today in class, but you can also come before or after school, or during Cavetime if you'd like to review more.

Targets for Today:

I can use mnemonics to help me remember facts about Lewis and Clark from my Mind Map.

I can use flashcards to help me remember facts about Lewis and Clark from my Mind Map.

I can teach someone else the material from my Mind Map.

Today’s  Agenda:

Silent Reading. Fill our your reading log when you are finished!

Partner Fluency- get ready for new partners and new stories to read! Remember to fill in your yellow sheet. The title of what you're reading is the number in the top corner.

Now for the last section of our BICUM brochures!!

After Reading -- #2

RETAIN

(Remember)
  • Teach Someone
  • Study in Groups
  • Recreate in Writing
  • Make Flash Cards
  • Use mnemonics
1. Rhymes and Songs
2. Acronyms
3.  Acrostics
4. Mini-Stories
5. Picture Links

  • Rehearse

Let's put that into practice as we study for our Lewis and Clark  test.

Mnemonics: strategies to help us remember things!

    Image result for acrostic
  • Songs and rhymes (Ex: Alphabet song, poison ivy rhyme)
  • Acrostics (See picture!)
  • Mini-Stories (I'll do an example! Give me a person, a time, and a random detail to remember.)
  • Picture Links (Ex: Visualize Lewis&Clark in green army caps)

Mind Map Helps

Now that we've talked about mnemonics, let's talk about Flash Cards! One side should have an important word/date/fact. The other side is the condensed information that you want to remember about it.

Go ahead and fill out these flashcards about Lewis and Clark! 6 are blank on both sides, which means you can choose what to put on them.

Once you've finished your flashcards, cut them out and start practicing another strategy: studying in groups. You can do several things together:

  • Review your flashcards.
  • Teach your partner about Lewis and Clark. Pretend they've never heard it before and tell the story using your facts.
  • Ask each other questions about your facts.

If You Were Absent:

Pick up a pink sheet and make up your reading time. Finish your BICUM brochure. Study for the Mind Map Lewis and Clark test!
