Come and see us!

Don't forget to complete and hand in your computer lab/internet packet and your Previewing a Chapter assignment.
During Cavetime you could come immediately to our classroom, and get a signature to go into Lab 202 to finish your packet.
On Friday there will be a 7th grade assembly during Cavetime, so you will not have a chance to use  the lab that day.

Targets for Today:
Students will be able to Identify key details in a nonfiction text.

Students will be able to use mind map as a strategy to remember and understand details from a nonfiction text.

Today’s  Agenda:

Silent reading!

Pull out your BICUM brochure and the white packet from last time. We'll copy the section below, then go through one more During Reading strategy together!

The one that we missed last time! Making Predictions. Get ready to make some predictions about a quirky little fairy tale: The Pot that Danced.

Now go for it! You get to finish reading about Lewis and Clark and applying the During Reading strategies. Mark it up as much as you want- parts that give you a good picture in your mind, words you don't understand, parts that are especially interesting or important.
Your Purpose:  to use study-reading to learn as much as you can about
           the Lewis and Clark Expedition

And a Mind Map! Examples below. You get to make your own, using 30 facts from the Lewis and Clark article. That could mean lots of pictures and little labels on the map, or fewer pictures that have lots of facts tied up in that one picture.

We'll even watch a short movie about Lewis and Clark to help add details and facts. During the movie you can do one of two things: Take notes, or start drawing and adding to your Mind Map.
Your Purpose:  Practice Reducing and Organizing Information so you remember it.
There will be a test (on September 22 or 26) so you can show what you know!
