Announcements and Reminders:

Don't forget to complete and hand in your computer lab/internet packet and your Previewing a Chapter assignment.
During Cavetime you could come immediately to our classroom, and get a signature to go into Lab 202 to finish your packet.  Of course you could also finish it at home.

The library's Ugly Book contest will accept the last submissions today! Enter now if you'd like to participate!

Targets for Today:

Students will collect facts about Lewis and Clark from the article and the movie.

Students will begin working on their Mind Map to help them remember these facts.

Today’s  Agenda:

Pick up your folders and pull out your books! Start reading!

Fill out your reading log.

Time for partner fluency practice! Pull out the article about bats and decide who will read first. Make sure you're keeping track on your yellow papers.

Depending on how many students have finished reading the Lewis and Clark article, we may have some time in class to continue reading it. Use your During Reading strategies! You should be highlighting, making notes, writing predictions and questions, etc.

Watch the rest of the Lewis and Clark documentary. As you watch, take notes of important facts and details that you learn! You will use these on your Mind Map.

And now... the Mind Map! You already have it in your folder, so pull it out now. Remember that the purpose of any Mind Map is to help you organize information in a way that makes sense to you, and to help you remember that information. This is a strategy that you can use when you read stories, books, articles, or textbooks.

For this assignment, your Mind Map must:

  • Include 30 facts/details about the Lewis and Clark expedition. (Remember, one little picture might have 2, 3, or 4 facts tied to it.)
  • Label all the important stops along the journey (wherever you see a little circle on the trail.)
  • Draw the Mississippi River and label the other rivers that are already on your map.

Add the cities -- except Portland -- DO NOT add Portland!
