Announcements and Reminders:                            Cavetime begins today!   Today we will have an evacuation practice during Cavetime. Tomorrow we will begin regular cavetime procedures.  Cavetime goes from 11:00 - 11:30 Tuesday - Friday. You will receive cavetime slips in your A2/B2 class.  Click on this link for more information about Cavetime: Cavetime Information School pictures will be taken on September 8 - 9 during your math class.  Bring your  earbuds or earphones again next time if you have them.      We will be in the computer lab to finish       your packets.  A4 will receive picture packets today.

Targets for Today:  Students will practice independent recreational reading. Students will work on building fluency. Students will learn about and practice metacognition. Students will learn about reading online. State Core Reading: Literature Standard 10  By the end of the year, read and comprehend literature, including stories, dramas, and poems, in the grades 6–8 text complexity band proficiently, with scaffolding as needed at the high end of the range.   925L–1185L Reading: Informational Text Standard 10  By the end of the year, read and comprehend literary nonfiction in the grades 6–8 text complexity band proficiently, with scaffolding as needed at the high end of the range.       925L–1185L Writing Standard 8   (Reading to Prepare to Write) Gather relevant information from multiple print and digital sources, using search terms effectively; assess the credibility and accuracy of each source; and quote or paraphrase the data and conclusions of others while avoiding plagiarism and following a standard format for citation.

Today’s  Agenda: 1. Pick up your folder from the black crate. 2. Be seated and enjoy quiet individual reading time. 3. Fill out your reading log for what you just read. 4. Partner Fluency Practice. Today begin doing Turning Off the Faucet   == On your log, call it TOTF. 5. Practice  previewing, etc. with a sample chapter/passage.  UNIT 5 Building a Strong Nation (1800–1840) Last time we looked at Jefferson as President This time students will practice prereading strategies  with  "The Louisiana Purchase." Media Center -- Last 30 minutes of class to learn about the CRAAP test for finding information that is trustworthy. Mrs. Jones -- Finding Trustworthy Sources There will be a quiz on this in class next time.  A few notes: When you search, the search engines will target you with adds for the items you search for. The hits at the top when you search are the ones that have been clicked on most often. The CRAAP test helps you separate the roses from the manure.
